  • Unissued Prototype 2xCD-R [Early Artwork / Archive Copy]
Compact Disc (CD) + Digital Album

After unpacking from the move a year ago, I've managed to surprisingly find more copies of things tucked into boxes they didn't belong in. In such a box, I found TWO copies of an early, prototype version of the Brother 2xCD-R from 2007. These two copies are both numbered #1 and #2 out of a labeled edition of fifty, although these two copies are certainly the only ones of their kind in existence. Packaged in a clear dual-disc plastic jacket with side-stitching, with light brown cardstock inserts bearing red ink stamping and taped on hand-numbered tracklist labels. The reason these two were shelved is likely because of the color combination of light brown cardstock (where the final version used a recycled cardboard insert) and red ink stamping (where the final version used purple, which showed up much better). These two copies are somewhat odd looking, compared to the two print versions of Brother that followed, making them an interesting curiosity for the seasoned collector!

**NOTE: The items listed in the back catalog sale have all been found while unpacking. Some of them have been packed away for years in storage, and may have small imperfections. These are being sold as is, as the artifacts they are, to raise money for implementing the new studio. No refunds will be given.

about

Brother is a double-album that took years for me to complete. Recording work began in 2004 after the concept was drafted, and the album wasn't released in full until 2007 when it was finished. An abridged 10-track version, featuring the songs in a different, much cleaner mix, was released at Metanoia Media in 2005 while the remainder of the material was completed. Brother was limited to only 50 copies of 2xCD-R sets in 2007, and went out of print almost immediately. I've been somewhat open about my lack of faith in the album as the years pass - I don't feel that the sound of it has dated all that well, although I do stand behind many of the pieces from a compositional standpoint. Several of my friends and fans have continually praised this album, so I feel that my disconnection from it must be a more personal one. It was conceptualized as a sort of abstracted offering to my would-be brother - an idea I'd been unable to shake since my mother miscarried in the mid-1980s. Hopefully, the concept provides just the right amount of context for what is ultimately a deep and dark and very brooding ambient album. The sadness is caked on in layer after layer of purple reverb and grey tape hiss, and is finally presented here for the first time since the limited 2007 release.

"This album is a solid, and significant achievement in the world of ambient. Each piece is well thought out, carefully constructed, and deeply moving; much like the works of Brian Eno or Tangerine Dream, it is intelligent and mature. Milieu's prolific nature might lead some to believe the quality of his work suffers, but when the kind of time and dedication calls out to him to create works of this intensity, the results are stunning."
