about

The second volume of Plangent Liqueurs, subtitled Melted Crayon Radioband, continues on the eclectic path of collecting Milieu remixes and arranging them into albums.

The memories on this one are pretty ridiculous...I remember making the Plantre remix for Luke on a shitty HP machine in the tiny room my wife and I were living in out in the country. The first approach to A Distant Monarch was a pretty melody and distorted drums combo that was a loving nod to Mr. Canupp's earlier works. The remix for Cats On Earth is still one of my favorites today, another one I squeezed out of that awful grey HP. The Obfusc remix was fun, I remember Boltfish was really in a stride back then and that album was no exception. The When2 remix is actually the very first Milieu remix ever, made on an even shittier computer when I was still living in shitty Myrtle Beach. Endless Green was a fun rephrasing of Chris Orczy's beautiful harmonium music, and this mix really presages Coppice Halifax in a lot of ways. The Redspine mix for Electricwest was one of those "stay up til dawn rubbing your eyes" tracks, and my first draft the next day nearly blew my car's speakers with that bass. Nash Smith & Ganges were a band who toured in my town a few years ago, invited Milieu to open for them. The show was a bit of a wash but we all had fun, and they asked me to do this remix for them afterward. This one, along with the remix I did for The Qualia and another for The Artificial Sea, were rare moments of Milieu that dabbled in vocals, and looking back I really like all the careful processing I applied to the vox in the Hunters mix. The Emma Cora remix was an easy one to do, felt very effortless at the time and I like that about it....it feels breezy somehow. The Silo Romano mix was done right after I was working with David Tagg at his Expanding Electronic Diversity imprint, and you can hear Our Blue Rainbow all over this mix. The Alpha Chime remix came together somewhat unexpectedly after Experimedia asked me to master a collection of unreleased tracks by the talented Miles Tilmann, who I was already a major fan of from his vinyl at Toytronic. The closing track is one of two remixes I did for Scaldis, who were releasing something with U-Cover and asked me for a mix, though I cannot be certain that these mixes ever saw the light of day until now...

*EDITOR'S NOTE: I'm aware that all of these tracks, while being my work, exist with the original artists' names on them. Since it's been NINE YEARS (or more in some cases), I have long since lost my contacts with many of these very cool musicians. SO, if one of you has found this release and wants a copy for your contribution to it, PLEASE get in touch with me. It would be great to catch up anyway.
