Continuing the Plangent Liqueurs series of Milieu remix collections, volume three assembles a set of very groovy 2004-2007-era Milieu mixes, with a couple more technical and glitchy mixes towards the middle of the sequence. Opening with the second version of the "For Starters" remix I did for Scaldis, which (like the first one) was never released for some reason. This mix is very much along the lines of Our Blue Rainbow, with lots of chopped up breaks and really swirly sunny melodies weaving in and out. Next up is the epic and droney "Mushroom Field" remix I did for BTB at Boltfish, sometime right before or right after my Tandem Series split with ENV(itre) there. This one is a full on psychedelic swamp, complete with a pulsing beat that is 25% running backwards the whole time. Things loosen up for the funky "Free Way" remix for Brian Ellis, who was in the midst of his Benbecula releases at that time, if I recall correctly. This mix would have fit perfectly on the New Drugs album, with all the funky break work and busy bassline runs, while bright sheets of sinewave leads cascade over the top. From there, things get a bit darker with the Pisgah remix - a shameless nod to Tri Rep-era Autechre and probably a little Haujobb in there too. The whole thing bumps and skitters around until it dissolves into a field of humming pads, giving way to the second Milieu mix of Ten And Tracer's excellent "A Distant Monarch". This mix is a bit more grungy and head-nodding than the first mix, with references to some of Canupp's much earlier tracks (which at that time were *beyond* rare and hard to acquire). Back into some precision editing territory with the "Lattice Trees" remix I made for Box (aka Jeremy Bible's one-off electro project). Bonus points to anyone who can name the source of the remix tag's reference. This one is squarely a love letter to DIN-era Arovane. Luke Hazard's earlier Plantre project returns for a second version of the Astur/Atmos Worm remix, this one a heavily processed and backmasked version of the first, which itself contained some reversed elements. I couldn't decide which direction I preferred at the time, so I went with both. Scup Bucket, my collaborative partner in Flax Harmonade, is next with a Night Currents-fuzzbox rendition of his "Dofleini" track. Beginning the curtain call is my "Simple Station" mix of Resynthesize's "Supersynth" track, a drafted work for Experimedia, where I was a very prominent contributor at the time for mastering, album art and remixes. This one definitely falls into the Our Blue Rainbow session camp again, with lots of tape-drenched sinewave melodies and over-compressed drum lines. The sendoff for this volume is the luscious ten-minute space out mix I made for Forrest's "Free Loop 2". This one emerges from a wall of tape loops and organ pedal bass before bringing in a drum part from the same organ, and then layer upon sweet layer of drum break, female vocal and organ leads. A pleasant cloud to slowly let you down from at the end of the evening, and one more album of Milieu remixes that feels like anything but!
