about

The sixth volume of Milieu remixes, and the first one in a while that is totally "modern era" Milieu, which means this series is finally back up to speed. Nine mixes that mostly inhabit a braindance and melodic acid landscape, with lots of squelchy sequences, fluttering lead melodies and bouncy water-balloon rhythms. That is not to say that these mixes lack subtlety, because they most certainly have their moments of restraint as well as technicolor overdose, but altogether here they feel like a dance party that's suddenly realized the evening is ending, and no one wants to go back home, but it's the end of Summer and school is starting again soon. There is a sense of disconnect and longing that only really lines up well with being a teenager, in a nowhere town, so to be quite honest I'm not totally sure why I'm in my thirties and still conjuring up imagery like this. Maybe it doesn't actually quantitatively contain any of those emotions, but rather, these kinds of tracks immediately pull me back to memories of sitting around in public transit stations after I dropped out of high-school, spending the small amount of cash I had on pointless bus tickets so I could ride around all day, slumped in a seat, zoning out with Polygon Window in my headphones, staring out a window, happy to simply be in the safety of that moment, going nowhere. It doesn't sound all that glamorous now, but without things like that, I don't know if Milieu as you and I know it would even exist. In any case it is always my sincere hope that these collections of disparate tracks work together to form a nice, cogent whole that feels more like an album and less like a cobbled together mess. All but the last two tracks were drafted specifically for bonus cuts on Recycled Plastics releases, and the final two were commissioned by Illuminated Paths for the very cool and very warped Noob Saibot tape.

*EDITOR'S NOTE: I'm aware that all of these tracks, while being my work, exist with the original artists' names on them. Since it's been up to five years ago now, I have long since lost my contacts with many of these very cool musicians. SO, if one of you has found this release and wants a copy for your contribution to it, PLEASE get in touch with me. It would be great to catch up anyway.
