about

On March 17th of 2020, just as this terrible pandemic was thrust upon us, I began an open-ended series of ambient music that was designed, from the ground up, to be a balm for tired minds, a respite from the turbulence of the world and an easily accessible escape from everything in it. I devised the term "Vibratelepathic Antiviral Broadcast" to project the ethos of what I was doing clearly, although this became colloquially shortened to Vibratelepathos almost immediately, which probably says a lot about my state of mind in 2020.

Musically, these pieces would be led and informed by my growing interest in generative systems, which mutated and developed on a constant basis through the arrangement and expansion of my R-EW Audioholistics modular system. The R-EW was designed early on with processing and modulation in mind, rather than outright sound generation, meaning that the aim was to create a machine that could effectively take any incoming sound source and transfigure it into many different other sounds. Such a system would give far greater range and depth to the many synthesizers, drum machines and FX units I'd collected through the years, and in turn provide them with new purposes and possibilities as well.

It didn't take long for the R-EW system to start making magic, and because of the success of the sessions presented here, I actually progressed much more quickly than I anticipated through the growth of the system, picking up more new hardware for this monolith in 2020 than any other year I've ever used gear at all. This fact, again, likely points to the kind of year we've all had, and I am lucky that my work allowed me enough money to facilitate this idea to such a degree. As of my writing this now, the R-EW consists of twenty-nine separate modules, each with their own personality and utility.

This collection illustrates just how far I've progressed within only a year of this series, with this generative approach, and even now, there are still a dozen or so hours of session material from 2020 that has yet to be mastered and issued in the catalog. The versions of the recordings presented here are the CD-R edits as well - notably, AVB4 (Flawless Amethyst) appears in a "microdose" 3xCD edit, instead of the 28-hour digital version - although even with their more "modest" runtimes, these 32 recordings total over 28 and one-half hours of material to explore. Also omitted from this set are the numerous issuances in the PATHOS subcatalog, which remain exclusive to paid subscribers of the Vibra series (and as of this text total over thirteen hours of music themselves).

As Vibratelepathos moves forward into 2021, I am even more excited to share what's new and what has already come to pass, than I was when I began the catalog last year. I hope that you'll find some level of solace and peacefulness in these recordings, and perhaps even find more ways to use these sounds to adequately fit your needs than the applications I've kept in mind while designing them. I'm also happy to say that soon, I will be doing live audio-video broadcasts of Vibra sessions via Bandcamp itself - these events will hopefully become regular, perhaps even weekly, and will come with surprises such as a bonus download with your ticket purchase, or exclusive merch sold only for the duration of the live set. I hope to see you there!
