about

"The sun was warm but the wind was chill.
You know how it is with an April day
When the sun is out and the wind is still,
You’re one month on in the middle of May.
But if you so much as dare to speak,
A cloud comes over the sunlit arch,
A wind comes off a frozen peak,
And you’re two months back in the middle of March."

-Robert Frost, excerpt from "Two Tramps in Mud Time"

Sometimes, it feels foolish to say something, while other times, it feels foolish to remain silent. Following this, there are even times when one feels foolish whether they do or do not speak. In these moments, which seem to be the ones that feel as if they last for much longer than they actually do, I must simply admit that I am a fool - out of place, out of time, outside of my bandwidth - and so this moment, today, is as good as any to illuminate this fact, and perhaps even celebrate it, as a fool would celebrate their own inadequacies. This is my lot, and if you are reading this, it may be your lot too - to exist in this time and space where it is almost impossible to tell what is right, and what is not - and if there can be no changing the direction of the wind around me, to that degree, then let me be still here, while I may still be here, thinking out loud, a fool talking to himself in this transparent moment of suspended awareness, bereft of everything. Let the wind blowing through this valley speak, in the only wordless tongue it can know.
